Type Specimen Poster: Gale

Type specimen poster for a typeface I designed, called Gale. The objective was to base the typeface off a dress worn at the 2013 Oscar Awards, in this case Amy Adams' gown. The typeface should contain at least one quality of the dress.

I wanted the letterforms to have a sense of movement and weightlessness, much like the dress. They have a very hand-done and whimsical quality to them. As you can see, Gale is not meant to be used as body text, but rather as decorative type.

When designing the poster, I fit the letterforms together much like a puzzle, creating a smoke-like shape in the process. There were almost infinite possibilities as to what shape the letterforms created, so there was a lot of experimentation that occured before I was satisfied with what I had. The large "R" in the top right of the poster has some of its parts labled to inform the viwer of type anatomy. All 52 letterforms and 10 glyphs are shown here in the poster. Can you find them all?
